CIMA lunchBYTE: Is Everyone Now a Creative? Has the Traditional Creative Process Been Eliminated Due to User Generated Content?
User Generated content is exploding due to the ease with which it is possible to create and disseminate content. An idea has emerged that “users” — consumers, fans, regular average folk — can create content that media companies and brands can leverage. Is this compelling idea a myth or reality? What impact will this have on the traditional creative process?
Will there be a need for creative agencies? Is media now driving the “creative process”? Many argue that the success of creative -- not the quality of creative but its result -- can also depend on media.
Furthermore, marketers are now investing in tactics such as blogs and podcasts to allow their target to create “creative.”
Will these tactics lead to campaign/client success? As media planners increasingly lead the charge for all marketing, integration between media teams and their creative counterparts is vital. Media agencies are adding creatives to their media teams to work together as a unified effort to build a brand or reach top prospects. In turn is media turning into creative? Or rather, is user generated creative turning into media?
